Role-Specific

A software engineer resume should prove you can ship code and improve systems.

Technical resumes need to balance keyword density with proof. Stack keywords alone will not get you an interview, but missing them can keep you out.

Be specific about your stack

List the languages, frameworks, and tools you have actually used in production. Generic terms like 'web development' waste space.

  • Use the exact terms from the job description
  • Distinguish between expert and familiar technologies
  • Mention cloud platforms, databases, and tooling

Quantify engineering impact

Engineering managers love metrics. Latency, throughput, uptime, test coverage, and deployment frequency all show you think beyond code.

Keep the project section focused

Personal projects help early-career candidates, but only include ones that demonstrate relevant skills. One strong project beats three half-finished ones.
