Job Search Strategy

Numbers turn responsibilities into proof.

Quantified achievements are one of the fastest ways to make your resume more persuasive. The good news is that almost every role has numbers worth mentioning.

Look for four types of numbers

Revenue, time, quality, and scale are the easiest categories. Start there and you will usually find something measurable.

  • Revenue: increased sales by $120K
  • Time: cut reporting time by 6 hours per week
  • Quality: reduced error rate from 5% to 1%
  • Scale: onboarded 50 new customers

Estimate when exact numbers are unavailable

If you do not have exact figures, reasonable estimates are fine when you can explain them in an interview. Avoid guessing wildly.

Put the number at the start of the bullet

Front-loaded metrics catch the eye. 'Reduced support tickets by 30%' is stronger than 'Responsible for reducing support tickets by 30%'.
